Born in Sicily, May 16, 1969 and raised in southern France, Nicolas Caito heirs from fashion. His sense of fabric and precision to bring even the most complex designs to life were instilled in him at a very young age by his grandparents and other relatives who were seamstresses and tailors. At 21 Caito accepted an internship in Paris at Lanvin's flou sample room where he trained under master "modeliste" Francois Bouchet. It was here that Caito developed the skills and understanding of a patternmaker to transform designs from sketch to runway. Caito's natural understanding of fabric and flow and newly honed craftsmanship enabled him to break the traditional structured feeling of tailoring and embody the designs with fluid sensuality.

Nicolas Caito went from intern to master modeliste in just a third of the normal time. His ability to create more than the structure designed but to also infer the designers emotion and style into each piece lead Caito to Bill Blass. After just seven years in training with Lanvin and clients such as Hermes Nicolas Caito took charge of the sample room at Bill Blass and became a part of New York City.

In 2003 Nicolas Caito returned to Paris to establish and manage a sample room for Rochas but his time there was short. Less than two years later Caito Returned to New York to build hid own silent empire with a core staff and his wife Camille.

Nicolas Caito has been penned by Elle Magazine as "New York's most in-demand patternmaker"{Elle (Sept. 2007), p416.}and praised for bringing the technical craftsmanship of high fashion as seen on the runways of Milan and Paris to America. Despite his high profile collaborations "Peter Sorn, Proenza Schouler and Hermes", as stated in Surface Magazine #65 page 107, Caito has remained behind the scenes and out of the headlines.
